My Hardware

I thought I would create a little section with a list of the hardware I'm currently running Linux on.

  • Debian 9 (stretch) - AMD Sempron 2300+, 3GB RAM, 2 x 160GB HDD, ATI Radeon 9250 R925 128MB Video Card, Realtek 8139 Ethernet Card, LG CD/DVD-ROM, LG CD-Writer.
  • Linux Mint 19 (tara) - Intel Core i5-7600K, 16GB RAM, 1 x 256GB SSD, 1 x 4TB HDD, Intel HD Graphics 630, Qualcomm Atheros Killer E2500 Ethernet Card.
  • Linux Mint 19 (tara) - Intel Core i7-8750H, 32GB RAM, 1 x 480GB SSD, 1 x 1TB HDD, NVidia GTX 1050.
  • Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic) - Intel Quad Core 2.4GHz, 8GB RAM, 4 x 250GB SATA, Altansic Ethernet Card, LG CD/DVD-Writer.

Debian 9 (stretch) is installed on a home desktop - running as a light server as it's rather old hardware right now, but comes in useful for certain things.

Linux Mint 19 is installed on my home desktop and work laptop.  This allows me to run virtual machines with Windows, so that I don't have to have it physically installed on my machine, but if I really must run Windows, I've got it available to me.  Utilising KVM virtual machines.

Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic) is installed on one of my home desktop systems.  I don't tend to use this too much, so decided to go with a distro that will have a relatively longer shelf-life and not be inundated with updates each time I turn the system on when running a rolling distro like Debian testing, Fedora, Gentoo.  It comes in handy to run as a server from time to time, to test certain things out, for example migrating one of my servers.

The majority of server installs I run are usually with Debian or Ubuntu depending on requirements.  I generally run all sorts of distros from time to time, be it CentOS, OpenSUSE, RHEL, SUSE Enterprise Linux.
