Enabling user icons on GUI login screen

The default login screens for Mandriva LE2005, 2006 and 2007 use a basic login box for just username and password.  For those that used Mandrake 10.0 Official and Mandrake 10.1 Official will remember that there were user logins displayed with pictures against them.

This is mainly due to the theme assigned to KDM by default, which hides the icons from being displayed.  This can be re-enabled, by editing the /etc/kde/kdm/kdmrc file.  You need root privileges to edit this file, therefore, using "su" will give you the access rights you need once you've entered the root password.

In this file, is a value:

UseTheme=true

This needs to be changed to false, so:

UseTheme=false

Now, when you log out, you should see the new login screen as it was before in previous versions of Mandrake Linux.  If you want to add your own pictures, save them into the /usr/share/mdk/faces directory.  You will also need root privileges to move the files into this directory as well.
