Creating a PDF from image files

I had scanned in a document, that was then ten JPEG files, which I wanted to email to someone.  I thought it would be better to send as one document, so decided to create a PDF file of these images.

What do you need?

First of all, you need to install a package called ImageMagick.  After you have this installed, it's best to prepare your images how you want them.  ImageMagick supports a lot of different image formats, so if you've scanned and saved as something else other than JPEG, chances are it will work for you perfectly fine.

After you've scanned your document, it's ideal that you then use a naming format so that the order of pages will appear correctly when we create the PDF.  Therefore, I tend to name my pages as 01.jpg, 02.jpg, 03.jpg, and so on for each relevant page - so that page 1 is page 1, etc.

Put the JPEGS or whatever in a directory that contains no other files.  Then just do:

convert *.jpg myfile.pdf

replacing myfile.pdf with the name of the PDF document that you wish to create.  As long as you have the files in the correct order in terms of pages, it will appear in the correct order in the PDF document.
